Plainfield - State police said they found 51 bags of heroin with an estimated "street value" of $500 after searching a car on Interstate 395 Friday night.

Police charged Nancy Pepe, 53, of Killingly with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to sell.

Members of the Troop D Quality of Life Task Force, the Danielson state police barracks and the Plainfield Police Department stopped the car for a traffic violation near Exit 87 on I-395 North at about 10:15 p.m. Friday, police said. After obtaining consent, police searched the car, where they said they found the heroin.

Pepe was released on a $10,000 bond and will appear in Danielson Superior Court on Aug. 20.

Anyone with information on the illegal sale of narcotics or synthetic marijuana is asked to call the Troop D's Anonymous Tips Hotline at (860) 779-4950.
