NAACP to hold press conference for Lance Goode case

New London - The New London NAACP plans to hold a press conference Wednesday to discuss their dissatisfaction with the U.S. Attorney’s decision not to pursue criminal charges against a former New London police officer accused of planting drugs in 2010.

Tamara Lanier, the criminal justice chairwoman of the state NAACP, said Lance Goode, the man who claims he was falsely arrested after former officer Roger Newton planted drugs, is expected to attend.

Lanier and New London NAACP President Don Wilson met with criminal justice officials on Aug. 1 where they said the U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI officials confirmed there was no pending case against Newton. The matter is the subject of a pending civil case.

Wednesday’s press conference is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the New London City Hall.

The Lance Goode case and racial profiling will be a topic of discussion at the NAACP's Hoodie Rally at 3 p.m. on Aug. 11 at Howard T. Brown Park in Norwich. The event is sponsored by both New London and Norwich NAACP chapters.
