Montville - Assistant Superintendent Brian Levesque was appointed acting superintendent by the Board of Education during a special meeting on Thursday.

Levesque has been the assistant superintendent since July 2009 and was a teacher and high school principal before taking that role.

As acting superintendent, Levesque will be filling in for Pamela Aubin, who is on a leave of absence from Sept. 1 until June 30, 2014. Earlier this week, Board of Education Chairman David Rowley accepted her resignation effective July 1, 2014.

Aubin, who has been the superintendent since January 2010, had two years left on her contract with Montville. In June, the Board of Education voted not to extend her contract for another three years and not to give her a raise.
