Hearing Thursday on allowing five more residential units at Gateway Commons

East Lyme — The Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Town Hall to consider adding five more residential units to the regulations guiding the proposed Gateway Commons development.

If approved, the number of overall residential units allowed in the development planned for acreage near Interstate - 95 Exit 74 will increase from 275 to 280.

The commission had approved a master plan for the residential and commercial village in 2008 and a final site plan for the residential phase last June. The project by Simon Konover of West Hartford and KGI Properties of Providence, R.I. had stalled during the economic downturn.

The developers have said they could begin construction on the residential phase, anticipated to last 16 to 18 months, as early as 2014.

The commercial phase has not yet come before the commission for final site plan approval.
