Ledyard beats Fitch and earns Class M playoff berth
Ledyard – Joe Carter ran for a pair of long touchdown runs as Ledyard routed Fitch 49-19 in their annual Thanksgiving Day game to qualify for the Class M state playoffs.
Unofficially, Ledyard will be the seventh seed and play at No. 2 St. Joseph in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Trumbull.
Carter had touchdown runs of 59 and 66 yards to break a 13-13 tie before before JoJo Shumaker (63 yards) and Jordan Kowalski (18 yards) added TD runs later in the quarter and Luke Saccone capped the scoring with a 41-yard interception return with 4:30 left.
Fitch trailed 13-0 when Robert Duncan ran 1-yard for a touchdown 50 seconds into the second quarter and John Moscol went 43 yards with 3:07 left in the half to tie the game at 13-13.
Ebdon threw a pair of touchdown passes to River Thomas for Ledyard. After throwing a 5-yard touchdown pass to to Thomas with 5:40 left in the quarter, the Colonels successfully recovered an onside kick and Ebdon hooked up with Thomas from 14 yards out moments later to make it 13-0.
