Police charge man in death of Deep River woman

Deep River (AP) — Connecticut State Police have charged a 22-year-old man with the murder of a woman found inside a Deep River home Thursday afternoon.

Robert O. Rankin is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond and will be arraigned today in Middletown Superior Court.

State troopers received a 911 call shortly after 1 p.m., reporting an unresponsive person at 131 Rattling Valley Road. Emergency medical workers pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Rankin’s last known address is the same as the home where the woman was found.

Investigators have tentatively identified the woman, but authorities did not release her name Thursday because her relatives had not been notified.

Detectives with the State Police Central District Major Crime Squad are conducting the criminal investigation, which is continuing.

The Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will schedule an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.
