New London police said a 28-year-old man wanted for the Aug. 29, 2013, shooting death of Jesus Pinero was captured Wednesday morning in Bronx, N.Y.

Keith Ramel Delvalle, whose last known address was at 40 Montauk Ave., Apt. 1, New London, was taken into custody by U.S. marshals and New York City police and is being held by the NYPD while awaiting extradition, according to Deputy Chief Peter Reichard of the New London Police Department.

City detectives had obtained an arrest warrant charging Delvalle with Pinero’s murder around Christmastime and contacted the U.S. marshals after determining Delvalle had fled the state to avoid prosecution, according to Reichard. Delvalle was taken into custody without incident after he was located Wednesday morning at an apartment in a Co-op City housing complex. Delvalle opened the door for a U.S. marshal posing as a drug buyer, Reichard said.

Delvalle will be returned to Connecticut and charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and commission of a Class A felony with a firearm. According to public record, he was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon in 2008 and 2011 in New York. He also pleaded no contest in Connecticut in 2011 to use of drug paraphernalia.

Pinero, 29, also known as “Gee,” was fatally shot in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Prest Street. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled he died of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and extremities and was the victim of a homicide.

City police had previously charged 33-year-old Lance J. Brown of Uncasville with firing a gun at the scene of the homicide, identifying him as a suspect through DNA taken from a handgun that was recovered at the scene.

Pinero’s family members could not immediately be reached for comment. He is survived by a 4-year-old son.
