New London - Meghan Fornaro made a pair of free throws with 11.8 seconds to give Coast Guard Academy a 43-42 victory over Springfield College on Saturday in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women's basketball game.

The Bears (19-6, 14-6) clinched the third seed for the upcoming NEWMAC tournament and will host the Pride (14-11, 10-10) again in the first round Wednesday.

Coast Guard trailed 42-41 with 20.5 seconds when Brittney Zimmerman rebounded her own missed shot, the Bears called a timeout and got the ball to Fornaro, who was fouled while driving to the basket and made both free throws. Tori Sutherland led Coast Guard with 12 points.

In other games:

• Alexa Menard hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:24 left in the game to lift No. 4 Trinity past No. 5 Connecticut College, 79-76, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinals. Caitlin Cimino had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Camels (14-11) and Tara Gabelman added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Men's basketball

• Anthony Epps made a layup at the buzzer to give Mitchell a 70-68 win over Regis and a tie for first with Elms in the New England Collegiate Conference. Mitchell (17-7, 12-4) is seeded second in the NECC tournament and will play in Friday's semifinals against the winner of No. 3 Becker and No. 6 Daniel Webster.

Joshua Ford had 28 points, 12 rebounds and six assists for Mitchell and Parris Hill had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Epps added 13 points.

• Robbie Burke had 10 points and eight rebounds for Springfield in its 83-60 win over Coast Guard in the NEWMAC. David Anderson had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Bears (5-20, 2-12) and Devonte Weems scored 10.

• Keith Porter scored 24 points, but UConn-Avery Point lost to Roxbury 68-66. Malcolm Simmons added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Pointers (12-13) while Tyler Barnes had nine points and 13 rebounds.

• Army Prep defeated St. Thomas More on Friday night, 99-74. Calvin Crawford had 18 points and four assists for the Chancellors while Cane Broome added 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.

Men's hockey

• J.C. Cangelosi had a hat trick to pace Conn College past Colby, 4-0, in the NESCAC. Mike Sinsigalli scored for Conn (9-13-2, 8-9-1) and Keith Veronesi had two assists.

Women's hockey

• Jane Pagano scored twice and Julie Beattie and Sarah Kaplan both had two assists as Conn College scored five unanswered goals to beat Williams 5-1 in the NESCAC. Michaela Igo had a goal and an assist and Cassie Hunter and Stephanie Izzi both scored for Conn (10-11-3, 4-9-3).

Women's indoor track

• Conn College's Bella Franz won the 800-meter run in 2:16.95 at the New England Division III Championship. In addition, Kim Bolick was third in the mile (5:02.43), Kelsey McGinnis was sixth in the 5,000 (18:04.97) and the 4x800 relay team of Bolick, Caroline Leonard, Ashley Curran and Franz was sixth (9:43.21).
