"Rock of Ages" hits the Garde stage

Step into a cloud of Aqua Net. Slip on some freakily oversized shoulder pads.

The '80s, in all their low-rent glory, are back in "Rock of Ages."

This musical takes its soundtrack from hair-metal hits of the era. Such as "Here I Go Again," "The Final Countdown," "We Built This City," "I Wanna Rock," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and on it goes.

The story? Well, a small-town girl (who, I'm guessing, was livin' in a lonely world) falls for a city boy (think he took the midnight train goin' aaaaaanywhere?). It all happens in 1987, and the action take place in and around a Sunset Strip rock club.

"Rock of Ages" was nominated for five Tony Awards when it bowed on Broadway in 2009. And it's still running on Broadway, all these years later.

At the same time, a Phoenix Entertainment tour of the show is crisscrossing the country, stopping for a Sunday matinee at the Garde Arts Center.
