East Lyme police break up party in car parked in Exit 74 commuter lot

East Lyme — Six underage males were found with several partially consumed cans of beer, more than 25 unopened beer cans, a bottle of rum, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in a car parked in the commuter parking lot off Interstate 95 last month.

On Dec. 22, around 9:14 p.m., an East Lyme police officer noticed six cars parked in the commuter lot off Exit 74. The officer said five of the vehicles were unoccupied while six juveniles were inside the sixth car.

When the police officer approached the car, he detected the odor of alcoholic beverages, according to the police report. Once all of the males identified themselves, it was determined that they were all under the legal drinking age.

All of the males were taken into police custody and released to their parents. They were each charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. The driver of one of the cars also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana.
