Waterford – Police were out searching an area in the vicinity of Spithead Road Thursday evening, looking for a man who witnesses say fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident that sent one person to the hospital.

The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m., and members of the Jordan Fire Department responded to find the vehicle had traveled across the road, through a stone wall and into a tree, according to firefighters.

Waterford Ambulance transported one person to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment. Spithead Road, between Daniels Avenue and Route 156, was closed between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Waterford police were not available for comment on details of the search.
