Montville's Hill to attend Cornell and makes all-state teams

Montville High School senior Jamie Hill has accepted an offer to play at Cornell University next season, coach Derek Wainwright said Wednesday.

Hill, one of the top shooting guards in the Eastern Connecticut Conference, was also one of four locals to make the Connecticut High School Coaches' Association's All-State girls' basketball teams and one of four to make the CHSCA Academic All-State team.

"It's a big accomplishment," Wainwright said. "To get an Ivy League education is a big deal. You couldn't ask for anything more from basketball than to go to a four-year college like that. You're starting your life off pretty well."

Hill and Stonington's Margot Calmar were named to the Class M team, Norwich Free Academy's Alyssa Velles made the Class LL team and St. Bernard's Casey Sullivan made the Class S team. Sullivan was the only ECC player to repeat on the all-state team.

In addition, Hill was named to the Academic All-State team with St. Bernard's Brittney Walenta and a pair of East Lyme starters - Jenna Schumacher and Colleen Durkee.
