    NHL Roundup

Shawn Thornton of the Bruins, left, and Jay Rosehill of the Flyers fight during the first period of Saturday's game at Boston.

    Bruins 5, Flyers 2

The Boston Bruins own the NHL's best home record.

Now they know they'll have home-ice advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Johnny Boychuk scored the tiebreaking goal with 6:06 left in the third period, Milan Lucic had two goals and the Bruins clinched the conference's best record with a win over Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

With four games remaining on their schedule, the Bruins have 50 regulation and overtime wins - the league's first tiebreaker. Second-place Pittsburgh has 44 and can't catch Boston if it wins the rest of its games.

"You work so hard for that all season, it's nice we could do it here," Lucic said.

    It was Boston's league-leading 30th home victory.

The win also moved Boston two points ahead of St. Louis for the NHL's best record. The Blues lost to Colorado on Saturday.

"With the win today we clinched (the conference), and it's good for our team," Boston defenseman Torey Krug said. "We're excited about having home ice now."

Boston coach Claude Julien knows it's been a good season.

"You just have to look at our record," he said. "We're at 113 (points). I think that shows you overall we've been a pretty good team. We've had struggles at times, but I don't think there's an area I'd consider a weakness on the team."

David Krejci also scored for the Bruins and Patrice Bergeron extended his consecutive point streak to 11 games, setting up Boychuk's go-ahead score.

Wayne Simmonds and Jay Rosehill scored for the Flyers, who are in a tight race with a group of teams for a playoff spot.

"Every game is a must-win," Flyers captain Claude Giroux said. "There are a lot of teams behind us trying to make the playoffs. We have played good enough to be in the position we are right now and we can't forget that. We have to remember that we are a good team and we are in this position because we did a lot of good things this year."

Tuukka Rask stopped 24 shots for the Bruins, who had lost their past two games.

    Senators 3, Rangers 2

Robin Lehner made 41 saves and held off a furious late push by New York to lift Ottawa to a victory that prevented the Rangers from clinching an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

The Rangers needed only one point to secure a postseason spot for the fourth straight year, but were shut down by the Senators, who hold only faint playoff chances.

Mark Stone and Mika Zibanejad scored in the first, and Jason Spezza made it 3-1 in the second for Ottawa, which squandered a 3-0 lead in a 7-4 loss to Montreal on Friday.

Mats Zuccarello deflected in two goals in the middle period to bring the Rangers within a goal each time. Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves in the loss.

    Capitals 4, Islanders 3

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored in regulation and had the only goal in the shootout to lift Washington to a win over New York and keep the Capitals' playoff hopes alive. Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby stopped all three Islander attempts in the shootout and Washington snapped a five-game losing streak and moved within two points of Columbus for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Kuznetsov tied it 1-1 at 2:36 of the second period, but John Persson put the Islanders back ahead at 4:16 and Frans Nielsen made it 3-1 on a power-play goal at 9:55. The Capitals fought back to tie it, getting goals from Nicklas Backstrom at 12:45 and Joel Ward at 15:01.

    Devils 3, Hurricanes 1

Dainus Zubrus scored two goals and New Jersey beat Carolina.

Travis Zajac scored the go-ahead goal on a deflection in the second period to help the Devils earn a point in their seventh straight game.

They improved to 4-0-3 during a stretch that has given their playoff chances a significant boost.

Jeff Skinner scored for Carolina, which had its two-game winning streak snapped. The Hurricanes had kept their faint playoff hopes alive by earning points in their previous five games.
