Businesses contribute almost $70k to fund UConn parade and rally Sunday

The office of Governor Dannel P. Malloy has announced that almost $70,000 has been raised through donations from businesses and corporations to fund the victory parade and rally in Hartford Sunday for the University of Connecticut’s championship Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.

In a press release, the governor is quoted as saying, “In less than two days, the Hartford Business Improvement District (HBID) has organized nearly $70,000 from donors to help pay for a wide range of costs that include physical operations, public safety personnel, staging equipment, insurance, vehicles, transportation and clean-up."

Both teams won their respective NCAA National Championships this week.

The parade will step off at 4 p.m. and start and end at the Connecticut State Capitol Building. A rally will follow immediately on the North portico of the Capitol.

Locally based companies contributing to the costs include Mohegan Sun and the Robinson & COle law firm. Others include insurance companies, banks, auto dealerships and United Technologies, AT&T and the XL Center, according to the release.
