UConn hockey to play in inaugural Frozen Holiday Classic

UConn will take part in the inaugural Frozen Holiday Classic on Dec. 27-28 at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, a four-team event that will feature three state schools and Union College, fresh off its first national championship in the NCAA Frozen Four.

Quinnipiac, a national finalist in 2013, will be joined by Sacred Heart to complete the field. After the first tournament, Yale will replace Union in 2015 to make it an all-Connecticut tournament. UConn will become a full-time member of Hockey East this winter.

"UConn hockey is very excited and honored to be asked by Webster Bank Arena and its organizers to be a part of this annual holiday tournament," coach Mike Cavanaugh said during a press conference Monday in Bridgeport. "Every year when you look at your schedule there are certain games you circle that are very important. The holiday tournament is always one of them. We couldn't be happier at the University of Connecticut to be a part of this."

Pairings for the inaugural event, along with ticket prices and availability, will be announced at a later date.
