Westerly - Picus Woodwrights lead carpenter David Cox, left, and owner Greg Bressler work on rebuilding the roof of the portico of the Granite Theatre in downtown Westerly on Thursday as part of an ongoing restoration and rebuilding project to the historic landmark.
The Granite Theatre was originally built as the Christian Chapel in Westerly, a Greek Revival church, in 1843 at the foot of Granite Street in downtown Westerly.
The current owners of the Granite Theatre, Renaissance City Theatre Inc., are attempting to fully restore the building with grants and private donations.
