Lord Foundation covers $300,000 shortfall in United Community & Family Services renovation

Norwich – United Community & Family Services on Thursday announced that Katherine Lord & Joel Suisman, trustees of the Edward & Mary Lord Foundation, presented the organization with a check for $300,000 to cover an unexpected shortfall for the current renovation project budget for the Norwich Health Center at 47 Town St.

The expansion includes the addition of 12 new treatment rooms, which is double the current number of treatment rooms, a new dental operatory, 18 new behavioral health offices and decentralized waiting rooms. Upon completion of the final phase of a multi-phase project, capacity at UCFS will increase by 48 percent.

"Ed and Mary lived a frugal and uncluttered life, but Ed was very astute and made many wise investments. It is because of their frugality and intelligence and innate generosity that I am able to stand here today and present this check to UCFS," Katherine Lord said in a news release. "I am sure that Ed and Mary would be pleased and proud that their hard work, simple life and foresight is able to benefit so many people in Norwich, the town they loved so much."
