New London — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning in the parking lot of the American Legion at 74 Garfield Ave.

Police said they initially received a call to report a disturbance in the parking lot, which was subsequently followed by more calls to report that gun shots had been fired. The shooting was reported at 12:52 a.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 26-year-old male victim who had been shot in the leg. The unidentified victim was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and later transferred to another area hospital. Police said the victim's injury was non-life threatening.

Police said a possible male suspect was seen running from the scene toward Connecticut Avenue immediately after the shooting. A state police K-9 unit responded to assist and officers from the city's Detective Bureau processed the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time.
