UConn freshman Amida Brimah will have surgery today at the UConn Health Center in Farmington to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
His recovery period is expected to last four to five months.
A 7-foot-center from Ghana, Brimah appeared in all 40 games, starting 17, for the national champions. He led the Huskies in blocks (92) and field goal percentage (64). He averaged 4.1 points and 3.0 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game and made the American Athletic Conference all-rookie team.
His shoulder bothered him during the season. A decision was made for Brimah to have shoulder surgery following a recent MRI.
