UConn's Ollie, Auriemma to take part in leadership panel at Pentagon

Winning a national championship has its perks.

UConn men's coach Kevin Ollie and women's coach Geno Auriemma, who guided their respective basketball teams to national titles last month, will take part in a leadership panel at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., today.

They will join a group of college and USA basketball coaches for a strategy seminar with military personnel and a panel discussion on leadership. More than 400 service members are expected to attend.

The event will be broadcast at 1:30 p.m. on The Pentagon Channel and webcast at www.pentagonchannel.mil/livestream.aspx.

Other coaches on the panel are: Syracuse's Jim Boeheim, Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon, Michigan State's Tom Izzo, Texas Tech's Tubby Smith and Villanova's Jay Wright. ESPN's Jay Bilas will serve as moderator. Topics will include challenges facing championship-level teams and the U.S. Military.

Auriemma is the head coach of the USA women's basketball team while Boeheim is an assistant coach on the men's national team staff.

"These preeminent coaches lead their own world-class teams in USA Basketball and the NCAA," said Gen. Martin Dempsey, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in a released statement. "We'll discuss the importance of dynamic leadership to building winning teams and also expose these coaches to what our world-class military team brings to the nation."
