    Avery Point ousted

    Suffern, N.Y. - The UConn-Avery Point baseball team was ousted from the NJCAA East Division II tournament Sunday, losing its first two games.

    The Pointers (36-11) lost to Westchester Community College 12-4 in the opener of the three-team, double-elimination tournament. That game ended in the eighth inning on a mercy rule (leading by eight after seven innings). Avery Point lost to Mercyhurst North East 4-2 in the second game.

    Zach Albin (5-3) took the loss against Mercyhurst, allowing four hits and four runs (two earned) over seven innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Baylor LaPointe (5-2) lost the opener in relief of starter Andrew Reel.

    Nick DeLotto had five hits on the day, New London's Matt Greene had two hits in each game and Nick Perrelli doubled, homered and drove in two runs in the opener for Avery Point.
