It's funny how many thousands of local artists have been inspired by Robert Ryman, a dude whose works are typically canvas squares painted white or off-white. Period. That's stuff a burgeoning painter can sink his or her teeth into!

Alas, Jim Laurino and Barbara Lussier, whose joint show opens Friday in Chester's Art Gallery at the Mill House, are respectively influenced by Impressionism and the Hudson River School. If, then, you show up at their exhibit expecting to see great slabs of white paint, you're out of luck. On the other hand, if you appreciate cleverly rendered landscapes and gorgeous natural realism, then you'll have come to the right place. The show runs through June 26 and there's an artists' reception from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 14. The Art Gallery at the Mill House is at 5 West Main St., Chester.
