University of Connecticut officials say running back Lyle McCombs is no longer on the football team, but they're not saying why.
UConn announced Wednesday that the 22-year-old, 5-foot-8, red-shirt senior from Staten Island, N.Y., is off the team, but will attend school over the summer to get his degree.
Coach Bob Diaco says being on the football team is a special privilege, and with that privilege come certain responsibilities and expectations. He didn't elaborate.
McCombs is the fourth-leading rusher in UConn history with 2,681 yards, and was the team's leading rusher the past three seasons.
