Stonington — Elizabeth Morrison scored the game-winner with two minutes remaining as second-seeded Stonington High School edged No. 7 Immaculate 9-8 in a CIAC Class S girls' lacrosse tournament quarterfinal game on Thursday.

The Bears (19-1) advance to Tuesday's semifinals (site and time TBA) against the winner of today's game between No. 3 Old Lyme and No. 6 Weston, which was postponed Thursday due to wet field conditions.

Morrison had three goals and two assists, Jenny Sieczkiewicz and Emily Grey had two goals each and Lexi Bucko made seven saves for Stonington.

In other games:

• A goal by Britt Douglass in overtime helped top-seeded Avon eliminate No. 8 East Lyme with an 11-10 victory in the Class L quarterfinals. The Vikings, winners of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division and tournament championships, finish 14-6. Kendall Roberts had four goal and Belle Kenny and Rebecca McGlone each scored twice for East Lyme. Alex Rose made 14 saves and Vanessa Vurno and Caroline Gonsalves had two assists each for East Lyme.

Softball

• Freshman Riley Pickett broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and fourth-seeded Rocky Hill tacked on two more runs on the way to a 4-1 victory over defending champion Waterford in the quarterfinals of the Class M tournament. Elaina Sullivan had two hits for the No. 12 Lancers, who finish 17-7, including a double in the second inning that led to Waterford's only run.

• Kiara Casanova broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run double in the fourth inning as No. 12 Coginchaug defeated No. 13 St. Bernard 3-1 in the Class S quarterfinals. Sophie Nelson was 1-for-3 and scored the Saints' lone run in the third on Gretchen Greene's infield out. Amy Bouchard was the losing pitcher for St. Bernard, which finishes 15-9.

Postponements

• Three CIAC tournament games involving local schools were postponed due to wet field conditions and will played today. In softball, top-ranked Fitch will play No. 8 Maloney in the Class L quarterfinals at Washington Park at 4 p.m., while No. 6 Wheeler will visit No. 3 Coventry in the Class S quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. In girls' lacrosse, No. 3 Old Lyme will play host to No. 6 Weston in the Class S quarterfinals at 4 p.m.

Three local baseball teams will also play their state quarterfinal games today. In Class L, No. 17 East Lyme visits No. 8 Cheney Tech at 3:30 p.m. in Manchester; in Class M, No. 4 Montville plays host to No. 13 St. Joseph at 3:30 p.m.; and in Class S, No. 25 Old Lyme visits No. 17 Portland at 4:15 p.m.

Track & field

• Norwich Free Academy finished third in the Class LL girls' meet, which was suspended on Tuesday due to rain and lightning at Danbury High School and completed on Thursday. The Wildcats had 51 points, trailing Staples (85) and Glastonbury (60). NFA had four place-winners on the final day with Taylor Driggs placing second in the triple jump (35 feet, 11 inches), Olivia Lane finishing third in the discus (105-3), MiaLynne Park placing fifth in the 200-meter race (26.09) and the 4x400 relay team of Nicole Coughlin, Charlotte Van Sambeck, Margaret Lewerk and Park finishing fifth in 4:05.97.

Boys' golf

• Two schools and three individuals have qualified to play in the upcoming CIAC divisional tournaments.

East Lyme is the 11th seed in the Division II tournament which will take place on Wednesday at Fairview Farms in Harwinton and Stonington is seeded No. 10 in the Division II tournament which will take play on Monday at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron.

Individually, Grasso Tech's Trevor Hutchinson will joinn Stonington in the Division II tourney while Norwich Free Academy's Frank Lee and Justin Bohara will take part in the Division I tournament on Monday at Crestbrook Park in Watertown.
