Nisha Rajamohan, the No. 1 singles player on the Waterford High School girls' tennis team and the Eastern Connecticut Conference runner-up, has been a patient at Shriners Hospitals for Children since she was a child after being born without a portion of her right arm.

Last year, Rajamohan and her teammate and friend Lauren Rahr held a charity tennis tournament which raised $6,066 for Shriners and the duo now has plans for a second annual event. The tournament will be played Saturday, Aug. 16, at Waterford High, with matches held throughout the day. The fee for entry is $15 and donations will be accepted.

"We had a great turnout and everyone had a great time at the event," Rajamohan, who has used a prosthetic arm from Shriners to become one of the best girls' tennis players in the area, said in a press release. "Shriners Hospitals was incredibly grateful and proud that I could do the tournament for them and I want to keep the tradition again this year. With the charity tournament, I would like to show my appreciation toward Shriners Hospitals."

Shriners, a non-profit organization with more than 20 hospitals throughout North America, specializes in treating children under 18 with any orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and cleft palate. Shriners provides services to children regardless of their family's ability to pay.
