City suspends New London firefighter after arrest in Norwich

New London — Firefighter Alfred P. Mayo, who was charged by Norwich police Tuesday with first-degree criminal mischief, has been suspended with pay from the city fire department, according to Chief Henry Kydd.

Kydd met Wednesday morning with Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio, City Attorney Jeffrey Londregan and Personnel Director Tina Collins. He said the suspension will remain in effect until there is a determination of whether Mayo violated the terms and conditions of an agreement he signed when he returned to work Feb. 12 after an arrest in June 2013.

Mayo, who had been on suspension after being arrested following an incident the Montville Polish Club, pleaded no contest to a breach of peace charge and returned to work in February.
