Shipwreck exhibit opens at Lyman Allyn

Whether through the Titanic or when Quint from "Jaws" describes the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis as "eleven hundred men went in the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, the sharks took the rest," we are fascinated by shipwrecks. Which is why many will flock to the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London to see their latest show, "Lost at Sea: Shipwrecks of the Ancient World." The exhibition explores cultural treasures of the deep seas and boasts artifacts discovered by Dr. Robert Ballard and his team. It opened Friday, runs through Feb. 1, and an exhibition reception takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. It's free for members, $10 non-members. The Lyman Allyn is located at 625 Williams St., New London. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sat. and 1-5 p.m. Sun.; (860) 443-2545, lymanallyn.org.
