Emerging from the annual Django Reinhardt Festival in New York's immortal Birdland jazz club, a group called the Django All-Stars tours internationally - and performs Tuesday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

The spirit of the band focuses on the longtime musical partnership between guitarist Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli, whose collaboration fused an exhilarating and fleet-fingered brand of gypsy and eastern European music called "jazz maouche."

The All-Stars are fronted by guitarist Dorado Schmitt, born to Gypsy parents near the French/German border and a longtime virtuoso on the international jazz scene. The players rounding out the ensemble will be similarly gifted.
