RUSSIA: MCD'S SERVES 'TOO MANY CALORIES'

Russia's consumer protection agency has filed a suit against McDonald's for allegedly selling food that does not meet legal standards.

The case was announced Friday on the website of the agency, Rospotrebnadzor, which said it comes in the wake of inspections of two restaurants in Novgorod. According to the statement, some food was found with microbial contamination and several items had caloric values two to three times higher than allowed by national regulations.

The suits asks that sale of McDonald's products that do not meet the regulations be declared illegal, but it was not clear what penalty the company could face.
