New London - Coast Guard Academy will add four new members to its Athletic Hall of Fame on Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Hall of Fame Banquet at the Officers' Club as part of Homecoming Weekend.

The four members of the Class of 2014 represent four different decades of Coast Guard sthletics: Joseph Maka ('64), a three-sport athlete, along with two-sport athletes George Capacci ('75), Jennifer Yount ('81) and Aaron Waters ('94).

Maka was the starting safety and halfback on the 1963 football team which went to the Tangerine Bowl under head coach Otto Graham. Maka earned All-ECAC honors in football and was the starting centerfielder during his junior and senior seasons in baseball. During his junior season the Bears won a then school-record 13 games (13-6). He was also a member of the 1962 pistol team that participated in the national championship.

Capacci was a three-time All-New England wrestler, two-time runner up and four-time NCAA qualifier. He was the New England freshman champion at 190 pounds in 1972. Capacci was also a Division II/III honorable mention All-American as a member of the football team, leading Coast Guard in tackles as a senior.

Yount was a pioneer for women's athletics at Coast Guard as she was a member of both the first volleyball and basketball teams. She averaged a double-double with 14.6 points and 11.5 rebounds during the 1980-'81 basketball season, the first season in program history.

Waters was a star in football and baseball. He was a Freedom Football Conference first team selection during his senior season when he led the team in tackles. He was an All-New England outfielder in baseball and was a first team All-conference performer in 1993 and 1994. During his senior season, the Bears won a then school-record 21 games and a conference championship while also earning an ECAC tournament berth, the first in program history.

He set single-season school records with 121 at-bats, 36 runs, 48 hits, 13 doubles, 18 extra base hits and 72 total bases during his senior season. He also led the team with a .397 average after leading the Bears in 10 statistical categories while hitting .374 and finishing 12th nationally with five triples during his junior season.

"It will be a true pleasure to welcome such a distinguished and accomplished group of former CGA cadet-athletes to our Hall of Fame this fall," athletic director Tim Fitzpatrick said in a statement released by the Academy. "This year's honorees are quite diverse in their talents and experience - not only do they represent a variety of sports, but it is also interesting to note that each individual competed in a different era of CGA athletic history.

"What they all have in common is the high level of athletic excellence that they achieved, which is both noteworthy and inspiring. As is always the case, these new Hall of Fame members were selected by our committee after a rigorous, thorough evaluation process from a very strong pool of nominees. It's great for our current cadet-athletes to know that the legacy of athletic success at CGA has been paved over time by such outstanding performers."
