Stonington — Mystic Middle School will be getting a familiar face as its new principal.

The school system has hired former dean of students Greg Keith to be the new principal. He begins work Sept. 1.

For the past three years, Keith has been a principal in Ledyard, most recently at Ledyard Middle School. Before that, he taught at Mystic Middle School for many years and was the dean of students at Mystic Middle School and Pawcatuck Middle School.

“As a current principal, Greg has the experience and skills we were looking for in our new principal. He is student centered and works to provide educational opportunities to assure success for every student,” wrote Superintendent of Schools Van Riley in an email to the school system staff. “Greg is highly professional and has the open communication skills that keep parents and staff members informed. He has a collaborative style and maintains an open door policy that welcomes questions and suggestions from the staff and community.”

The principal position opened at Mystic Middle School after Jennifer McCurdy stepped down to become principal at Deans Mill School. That vacancy was created by the departure of Doug Hammel to take a job in Guilford.
