    Cochran named UConn's starting quarterback

Storrs — Casey Cochran was named UConn’s starting quarterback, head coach Bob Diaco said at a press conference following Monday's practice.

Cochran, who played at New London and Masuk, played eight games last season and started the final four. He completed 111 of 175 passes for 1,293 yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Senior Chandler Whitmer will backup Cochran, a redshirt sophomore.

“We feel like this is the best combination,” Diaco said.

UConn begins its regular season at home next Friday against BYU (7 p.m., Rentschler Field).
