The Nature of Things - Art Exhibit

October Dusk, 30x40, acrylic, Jan Blencowe

Nationally recognized artist, illustrator and amateur naturalist, Jan Blencowe, exhibits a diverse range of artworks exploring her deep connection to Connecticut's landscape and wildlife in a show titled The Nature of Things, at the Mary C. Daly Art Gallery at the Mercy Center, 167 Neck Road, Madison, CT during the month of September.

Blencowe's work ranges from small carved block prints to five foot landscape paintings, and includes drawings, encaustic, and monoprints. Her daily practice of spending time in the woods and marshes, is both a form of meditation and an artistic discipline, that includes observing and documenting nature through sketching and writing, and provides the basis for the works in the exhibit.

On Saturday September 20, 9:30-3:30, Blencowe will be offering a nature journaling workshop at the Mercy Center. This is a one-day journey following the path of nature to the Divine presence. Instruction will be given on how to draw and identify your findings, how to engage more deeply with your subject, write reflections and journal for personal spiritual growth and reflection. $25.00 plus a $35.00 material fee Register at www.mercybythesea.org
