Six staff members are leaving Salem School

Salem -- Superintendent Joseph Onofrio has accepted six staff resignations since the end of the school year, including those of Director of Student Achievement Cynthia Ritchie and Spanish teacher Marcelo Guinez.

On Monday night, the Board of Education discussed how to handle Ritchie’s departure, given community complaints about an excess of administrators at Salem School and the ongoing study of the administrative structure.

The board decided to move forward in seeking an interim assistant principal to replace Ritchie. The interim role and its tenure would not necessarily extend beyond the 2014-2015 school year.

Guinez is leaving after six years to teach advanced placement and honors courses at East Lyme High School. He will remain at Salem School on a per diem basis until the school is able to hire a replacement but will be released from his contract by Sept. 11.

Other resignations came from tutor Amanda Hergott, school secretary Emily Doiron, school psychologist Bernard Barile and instructional aide Fiona Fabry.
