New London – Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School was evacuated briefly Wednesday morning following reports of smoke in the building. The cause was ultimately determined to be dust from construction.

The New London Fire Department arrived on the scene at 9:05 a.m. and left at 9:35 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Keith Nichols.

Firefighters determined that the smoke alarm was set off by dust resulting from roof work. Construction workers had disturbed the masonry in the walls while installing roofing material, according to Nichols.
