Norwich - Brett Pirtle doubled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Friday to give the Connecticut Tigers a three-run lead and the Tigers held on for a 5-3 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades in a New York-Penn League baseball game before 3,515 fans at Dodd Stadium.

Pirtle, Steven Fuentes and Kasey Coffman had two hits each for the Tigers (35-31), who celebrated the history of minor league baseball in Norwich by holding Norwich Navigators Night — wearing the uniforms of the original occupants of Dodd Stadium in 1995 — and Franklin Navarro drove in an insurance run with a single in the sixth inning.

Starting pitcher Chase Edwards, who played in the league all-star game earlier in the week, allowed one earned run over six innings to get the victory, making him 6-3. Johan Belisario pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his second save.

The Renegades are 43-23 and in first place in the NY-Penn League's McNamara Division. The Tigers, in second place in the Stedler Division, are a game and a half behind the Brooklyn Cyclones in the wild card race. The three division champions and one wild card team qualify for the playoffs. The regular season ends Sept. 1.

H.S. football

• The CIAC Board of Control officially approved a proposal from its Football Committee that will revise the playoff and regular-season structure for the 2015 season. The playoffs will return to a four-division format with three rounds of postseason play, but schools will only be able to play 10 games during the regular season and there will be limits on contact during practice.

Babe Ruth (15) World Series

• Waterford plays its second game in the Babe Ruth Baseball 15-year-old World Series at 8 tonight against Kelso (Wash.) in Longview, Wash. The New England champs (0-1) lost their opener in National Division pool play to Broomall-Newtown (Pa.) on Thursday, 5-2. Kelso (0-1) lost its opener to Lumber River (N.C.) on Thursday, 4-3 in eight innings, and played Broomall-Newtown in a late game on Friday.

• Five members of the Mystic Schooners were named to the season-ending All-New England Collegiate Baseball League team. Second baseman Dan Hoy of Princeton and designated hitter Steve Laurino of Marist were named to the first team while second baseman Aaron Hill of UConn, outfielder Toby Handley of Stony Brook and designated hitter Brad Zunica of Miami (Fla.) were named to the second team. Newport's Blaise Salter, a first baseman from Michigan State, was named MVP and Top Pro Prospect after hitting .328 with nine home runs and 42 RBI.
