Ricky Skaggs fires it up at Mohegan Sun's Wolf Den

    Ricky Skaggs

Ricky Skaggs recently turned 60 - and it only seems as though he's been making vital roots, country and bluegrass music for about 58 of those years.

In fact, Skaggs was only 7 when he performed with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs on their syndicated television show. By 17, Skaggs and his close pal, the late, great Keith Whitley, were asked to join Ralph Stanley's amazing band. Eventually, guitar/mandolin virtuoso Skaggs went solo and formed his Kentucky Thunder band.

He's since won 14 Grammys, toured the world, and collaborated and/or produced a wealth of roots artists. His latest CDs are last year's live album with Bruce Hornsby, and a new duet recording with Sharon White, "Hearts Like Ours," which will be out in September.

Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder appear Sunday in the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den. And, oh, while you're at the merch table, look for a copy of Skaggs' autobiography, "Kentucky Traveler," now out in paperback.
