    Sun's Ogwumike named WNBA Rookie of the Year

    Mohegan – Chiney Ogwumike of the Connecticut Sun was named 2014 WNBA Rookie of the Year on Thursday in voting of national sportswriters and broadcasters.

    Ogwumike was presented the award during a press conference at the Mohegan Sun.

    Ogwumike finished with 23 votes, 11 better than Odyssey Sims of the Tulsa Shock. San Antonio’s Kayla McBride was third.

    Ogwumike’s sister Nneka, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, was WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2012, making it the first time in WNBA history sisters won the same award.

    Chiney Ogwumike, who was drafted No. 1 overall by the Sun after starring at Stanford, led all rookies in rebounding (8.5 per game) and double-doubles (13) while ranking second in scoring (15.5).
