Thames River Detachment of the Marines Corps League to host author Janet Barrett

Thames River Detachment of the Marine Corps League will host author Janet Barrett at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. She will discuss her recent book, “They Called Her Reckless: A True Story of War, Love and One Extraordinary Horse.”

The book is about a race horse at a Marine base in Korea in October 1952 that was put to work hauling ammunition to the front lines. The program is free; books will be available for sale, and a short reception will follow the talk.

The detachment will hold an abbreviated meeting afterward. All Marines, FMF corpsmen, chaplains, and anyone interested in becoming a member is invited. For more information, contact Tom Peters at (860) 434-0184.
