    H.S. soccer roundup: Ledyard boys win opener in OT

    Ledyard - Danny Cusmano scored his second goal with four seconds left in the first overtime to lift Ledyard High School past New London 2-1 on opening night of the boys' soccer season Tuesday.

    Matt Scahill assisted on the game-winner for the Colonels and Trevor Hutchins also had an assist. Jake Skilbred had three saves.

    Kingderly Thony scored, Wadlet Jean-Baptiste had the assist and Gabe Cortorreal had eight saves for New London.

    In other games:

    • Nathan Behr scored in the first half assisted by Zach Rand, lifting Grasso Tech to a 1-0 win over St. Bernard. Joe Jimenez mad 15 saves in goal for the Eagles, while Tim Bouchard stopped five shots for the Saints.

    • Tom McDaniel, Keith Stronach and Josh Handler all scored for Montville in its 3-0 win over Lyman Memorial. Joel Greenwood, Ethan Rose and Quentin Duperry each added assists for the Indians and Nik Strickland had three saves.

    Girls

    • Claire Hurley scored with just two minutes remaining in regulation as Waterford rallied for a 1-1 overtime tie with Norwich Free Academy. The Wildcats had taken the lead on Cassidy Marshall's goal with 13 minutes to play. Waterford, the reigning Class M champion playing its first game under new coach Chris Ghiglia, held a 20-9 edge in shots, but NFA goalie Rosa Conte made 13 saves. Jordan Kovacs stopped five shots for Waterford.

    • Stephanie Vetrano had two goals as Ledyard downed New London 7-0. Abbey Holland, Emily Kowalski, Kelly Lamb and Carly Loy each had a goal and an assist for the Colonels and Jocelyn Santiago scored.

    • Kiley Flynn scored twice as Griswold beat Fitch 5-3. Ally Clarke had two goals and Jayden Delaporta scored for Fitch. Shea Berry added three saves.

    • Elaina Becher had three goals and an assist as Woodstock Academy downed Montville 5-0. Stefani Szot had 11 saves for Montville.

    • Alexia McClammy scored two goals as Wilcox Tech defeated Grasso Tech 6-0. Taylor Cooley made 11 saves in goal for the Eagles, who were outshot 23-8.
