H.S. soccer roundup: Wheeler boys nip St. Bernard 1-0 in ECC Small
Montville - T.J. Condon's first-half goal stood up, leading Wheeler High School past St. Bernard, 1-0, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division boys' soccer match on Friday.
Goalie Nathan Bruce had six saves for the Lions (2-0, 1-0) to earn the shutout while Tim Bouchard made 10 saves for the Saints (0-2, 0-1).
In other games:
• Luis Cruz scored a pair of goals and Walter Factor had a goal and two assists as Ledyard beat Plainfield, 3-0. Ben Gill also had an assist for Ledyard (2-0).
• Danny Reid's unassisted goal at the 86:47 mark of overtime lifted Old Lyme past Old Saybrook, 1-0, in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats (2-0, 2-0) held an 18-3 edge in shots and goalie Owen O'Donnell had one save. The Rams fell to 1-1, 1-1.
• Hamden Hall scored twice in the first 15 minutes and beat Williams School, 2-0. Case van der Velde made 17 saves for Williams (0-3).
Girls
• Courtney Downer's penalty kick with four minutes left pushed Bacon Academy past Stonington, 2-1. Halle Anderson scored off assists from Ella Rath and Ali Cullen for Stonington (1-1) while goalie Gabby Hoops had three saves.
• Abby Smith scored her first goal of the season for Williams in a 3-1 loss to Bancroft School. Lucy Burr had an assist for the Blues.
