Poll shows support for recreational marijuana

Hamden (AP) — A new poll shows a majority of Connecticut residents support legalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana for recreational use.

But the Quinnipiac poll released Monday also shows a wide age gap between supporters and opponents of legalized pot.

The registered voters surveyed support the idea 52 to 45 percent. Among those 18 to 29 years old the margin was 80 to 20 percent. Those over 65-years old opposed the idea 61 to 34 percent.

The survey showed Connecticut voters support the medical use of marijuana by a margin of 90 to 9 percent.

The telephone poll was conducted May 1 - 6, and has a survey error margin of 2.4 percentage points.
