    H.S. roundup: Montville boys roll behind Handler's three goals

    Montville - Josh Handler scored three goals as unbeaten Montville High School rolled to a 5-0 victory over Griswold on Monday night in a game between teams ranked in the top 10 of the state's Class M/S boys' soccer poll.

    Eric Ross and Kyle Apicelli also scored goals for top-ranked Montville (3-0), which outshot No. 10 Griswold 19-4, while Mike Lopez, Ryan Turney, Lucas Chaude, Ethan Rose and Caleb Sheldon were credited with assists.

    Griswold is 2-1.

    In other games:

    • Teddy Lee and Matt Kerst scored goals in Fitch's 2-0 shutout of Williams School. Goalie Greg Cooper had seven saves for Fitch (1-2).

    Girls' soccer

    • Courtney Carroll converted a direct kick to give Morgan a 1-0 victory over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. Old Lyme held a 17-6 edge in shots and goalie Tori Sims made five saves.

    • Williams scored three goals during a six-minute span in the second half to wipe out a 1-0 deficit and defeat St. Andrew's 4-1 for its first win of the season. Lucy Burr had two goals and one assist for the Blues (1-2) while Mia Taylor had a pair of assists and goalie Dariyana Carter made 14 saves.

    Volleyball

    • Unbeaten Fitch won its Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division opener with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 win over East Lyme. Mae Sefransky had 14 assists and 10 service points for the Falcons (4-0, 1-0) while Caroline Taber added 14 service points and Michelina Pinto had 10 digs. Gabby Murphy finished with 11 kills for East Lyme (0-4, 0-1).

    • Vanessa Kobyluck had 28 assists in Waterford's 25-12, 25-10, 25-8 victory over Wheeler. Jill Sykora added six aces and Mikayla Shelburn 11 kills for Waterford (2-1). Sara Gaccione had 20 digs for Wheeler (3-1), while Christy Sehl had three kills and Chrissy McSwain four aces and two kills.

    • Alyssa Nissen had eight kills and Olivia Fargo added seven aces in Montville's 3-1 win over New London. Game scores were 25-16, 25-20, 16-25 and 25-19. Montville is 2-1, New London 0-2.

    • Old Lyme lost in three sets to Haddam Killingworth, 25-6, 25-15 and 25-6, in a Shoreline Conference match. Colleen Mueller had three kills and Sophia Romeo added one block for the Wildcats.

    • Norwich Tech rallied to beat Putnam in its Constitution State Conference East Division opener 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-22. Anna Hammar had seven kills and two blocks for the Warriors (1-2, 1-0) while Saige Laquitara added 13 service points, four aces and three blocks and Elanna Sanon had 18 service points, five aces and two blocks. Norwich Tech also trailed 22-9 in game two before rallying to win 25-23.

    • Grasso Tech rallied to win the final two games and pull out a 25-23, 22-25, 11-25, 25-22, 15-11 victory over Windham Tech in the CSC East. Kiera Sebastian had 12 service points, six kills and one dig for the Eagles while Keila Lastraglio had eight service points, three kills and three digs, Nicole Mallette Ferrance had 10 service points and Vanessa Parra eight kills, three service points, two aces and three digs.

    Field hockey

    • Jodi Weiss made 18 saves in Waterford's 2-0 loss to Killingly in the ECC. Killingly (2-0, 2-0) scored one goal in each half, outshooting the Lancers 20-6. Waterford is 0-2, 0-2.
