    Local college roundup: CGA men set program record with 7-0 soccer start

    Babson Park, Mass. — The Coast Guard Academy men's soccer team made program history on Saturday.

    Senior John Tarazian's goal in the second overtime helped the Bears rally for a 2-1 win over Babson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference opener.

    At 7-0, they're off to the best start while beating Babson (6-2), which is ranked fourth in New England, for the first time since 1995.

    Babson scored first on Logan Ventura's goal at the 66:40 mark before an own goal late in regulation forced overtime.

    In overtime, sophomore Jake Rath's corner kick found the head of Tarazian, who delivered the game-winning goal. Senior goalie Richie Burns had seven saves.

    Coast Guard puts its undefeated record on the line at crosstown rival Connecticut College on Tuesday.

    In other games:

    • Zach Punt scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick at the 87:37 mark, lifting Conn College past Hamilton, 1-0, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Doug Garabedian had an assist and goalie Austin DaCunha had a save for the Camels (3-2, 1-2).

    Women's soccer

    • Grace Bilodeau's second goal of the season, coming at the 77:16 mark, pushed undefeated Conn College past Hamilton, 1-0, in the NESCAC. Michelle Medina set up the goal and Bryanna Montalvo had two saves for the Camels (5-0, 2-0).

    • Caroline Eastman scored Coast Guard's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Springfield in the NEWMAC. Goalie Holly Moore had 10 saves for the Bears (4-2-1, 0-1).

    Volleyball

    • Coast Guard rallied from an early deficit for a five-set victory over Clark in the NEWMAC. Game scores were 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 25-22 and 15-10. Sophomore Susan West had a team-high 18 kills and junior Ashley Dumont added 13 kills while freshman Michelle McGill added a match-high 26 digs for the Bears (8-2, 2-0).

    • Junior Nicole Caminiti had a team-high 10 assists and six digs for Mitchell College in a 3-0 loss to Rhode Island College. Game scores were 25-10, 25-14 and 25-16.

    • Conn College lost a tight match to Colby, 3-2, in the NESCAC. Game scores were 13-25, 25-23, 26-28, 25-22 and 15-10. Sam Hunter had a match-high 20 kills and added 10 digs while Caroline Martin had 11 kills and 21 digs and Emily Arterbury added 36 assists and 10 digs for the Camels (3-6, 1-1).

    In Friday's 25-22, 26-24, 25-10 win over Bowdoin, Ella Johnson had seven kills and seven blocks while Alex McDevitt added seven kills for the Camels.

    Field hockey

    • Casey Brown scored two goals in Hamilton's 4-0 shutout of Conn College in the NESCAC. Goalie Ryley van der Velde made three saves for Conn (3-3, 0-3).

    Women's tennis

    • Junior Veyda McVey won her No. 4 singles match in three sets for Mitchell's only point in an 8-1 loss to Lesley in the New England Collegiate Conference. The Mariners fell to 1-2, 0-1.

    Women's cross country

    • Sophomore Ashley Curran placed second in 17 minutes, 52 seconds, to pace Conn College to a third-place finish at the UMass-Dartmouth 5k Invite. Alex Fromme took 12th (18:33) and Emily Winter was 16th (18:39) for the Camels, who finished with 143 points. East Stroudburg won the meet with 93 points.

    Men's cross country

    • Sophomore Ben Bosworth was Conn College's top finisher at the Iona Meet of Champions. He finished 66th overall in 27:17 and senior Patrick Dermody was 88th in 27:42 for the Camels, who placed 15th out of 22 teams. Arkansas won the meet with 46 points.

    Men's water polo

    • Nick DiLeo, Carlos Heros and Henry McMillan each had two goals in Conn College's 13-9 loss to Fordham. Conn also fell to Iona 15-7 as Heros scored three goals and DiLeo had two for Conn (0-4).
