    Terri Brodeur breast cancer walk set for Oct. 5

    The 14th annual Walk Across Connecticut, organized by the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, is set for Saturday, Oct. 5.

    In a news release Monday, the foundation said the event would begin at at the Vicky G. Duffy Pavilion in Old Saybrook and end at Camp Harkness in Waterford, where walkers can grab snacks and relax with a massage and yoga.

    Volunteers at Duffy Pavilion will distribute informational packets to walkers between 5 and 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4., and between 5:30 and 7 a.m. the morning of the marathon.

    A 6:40 a.m. opening ceremony is scheduled for the full marathon, which kicks off at 7 a.m. Those walking the half-marathon can register between 9:30 and 10 a.m. at 8 Capitol Drive, East Lyme. Warm-ups for the half-marathon begin 10 minutes before the start time of 10 a.m.

    Quarter-marathoners will start at Niantic Baptist Church at 433 Main St. Registration and information packets will be available at 12:30 p.m., and the quarter-marathon begins at 1 p.m.

    The event also features a 5K, which will be walked entirely within Camp Harkness, starting at 2:30 p.m.; walkers can register starting at 1:30 p.m.

    In addition to refreshments at the end of the walk, Camp Harkness will feature children's games, music and a photo booth before a closing ceremony scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

    All the foundation's fundraising goes toward studying the causes of breast cancer, the search for a cure and improved treatment options. The New London-based group has given $4.4 million to 44 breast cancer researchers.
