Little Theatre of the Deaf to Perform At Hygienic Art Park

The National Theatre of the Deaf will stage six performances of the Little Theatre of the Deaf company’s family-oriented production “Stories In My Pocket Too” at Hygienic Art Park in New London.
Stories In My Pocket Too is an original theatrical piece developed by NTD Executive Director, Betty Beekman and features the Little Theatre of the Deaf acting company; Joey Caverly, Christina Cogswell and Christina Stevens.
Each performance of Stories In My Pocket Too is approximately 45 minutes in length and will be performed simultaneously in ASL and the spoken word. In the program, the family audiences will be engaged in seeing and hearing stories and improvisations derived from original material, literature and social awareness that will entertain as well as expand their familiarity with deaf culture. Performances are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 19, 21 and 26. The performances are free to the public. The Hygienic Art Park is located at 79 Bank St.

Departing from their homes, family and friends, they left their secure and comfortable world for the uncertainty and horrors of war. They were driven by their love of country and the belief that the freedom that they knew and cherished at home belonged to all men. The volunteers brought with them the skills and ingenuity to allow them to survive living conditions far worse than most people today have ever experienced. The volunteers from Deep River and surrounding towns showed great courage in battle and their sacrifices helped preserve the Union and the cause of freedom. With respect and admiration we thank them for their defense of home, country and our way of life. They will not be forgotten.

WALKING TOURS TO BEGIN JUNE 23-24

Two newly developed walking tours will be offered to the public for the first time on the weekend of June 23-24, and will run through mid-September.

Historic Guilford Walking Tours are Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 a.m., and will focus on Guilford’s history on the Green and areas east, with an introduction to downtown’s house museums.

Tours focusing on Guilford’s architectural heritage will be Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m., and will take place on the Green and neighborhoods west.

All tours will meet in front of Town Hall, 31 Park St., and will be led by enthusiastic high school tour guides/researchers. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and children 7-11, and $20 per family. Group tour rates are available upon request.

The Adult Summer Reading Program is called “Between the Covers.” This is a nationally selected slogan to tie into the overall summer reading theme of “night.” Related programs and displays are also being planned for adults.
