Wheel estate: Touch-A-Truck is Saturday in Niantic

Kids love trucks, so it’s no wonder that they flock to the annual Touch-A-Truck festivities in East Lyme.

At this year’s event, which will be held Saturday at McCook Point Park in Niantic, there will be a wide array of four-wheeled vehicles. But there will also be something that takes flight: the LifeStar helicopter, which provides air transport for patients. It is scheduled to land at McCook’s at 1 p.m. and leave an hour later. (Of course, LifeStar’s arrival depends on whether the weather cooperates and there are no real emergencies.)

Kids can also take part in a range of activities at Touch-A-Truck, including face painting, hair beading, temporary tattoos, coloring, construction activities, and games.

This year, a quartet of food trucks will be onsite, representing Munchies Food Truck, Rolling Tomato, Flanders Fish Market and Flavor King.

A note about parking: There is free parking at Niantic Center School and Telaid, which is next door to the school on West Main Street. A free shuttle service will go between there and McCook’s.

Touch-A-Truck, now in its 12th year, is co-sponsored by East Lyme Auxiliary of the Child and Family Agency and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department.

Proceeds from the event benefitd the work of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut as it works with more than 17,000 children and their families in southeastern Connecticut.
