    H.S. softball: NFA's Comeau no-hits Norwalk

    Norwalk — Norwich Free Academy's Bailey Comeau pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and four walks, allowing just one earned run, as the 10th-ranked Wildcats defeated Norwalk 5-1 Friday afternoon.

    "Shea (Gendron, catcher) was calling pitches; Bailey was hitting spots, using all her pitches and they were all very effective today," NFA coach Bryan Burdick said. "One, three, four, eight-nine (in the lineup), none of them ever looked comfortable up there."

    Hailee Schrader and Sophia DiCocco each had a single and a double for NFA (6-2) and Alex Burdick, Shea Gendron and Sara Cote also had two hits apiece. Brooke Gottshall had a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

    In other games:

    • Ellie Hohlfelder pitched a four-hitter and struck out four as Fitch beat Ledyard 5-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game. Casey Flax was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Allison Georgetti tripled, walked twice and drove in two runs for Fitch (2-5, 1-2). Whitney Brandt doubled and scored a run for Ledyard (5-3, 1-2).

    • Pitcher Alexis Michon allowed only three hits as Montville defeated Killingly 7-2 in an ECC Division II game. Michon did not walk a batter and struck out 11 for the Indians (4-2, 2-1), and also had a pair of hits, including a home home. Rori Curran and Maggie Wainwright each added two hits and one RBI for Montville while Angel Skulczyck had two hits and scored a run.

    • New London was held to two hits in a 3-1 loss to Windham. Jaelynn Potter had an RBI single and Jovanna Potter singled and scored a run for New London (1-5). Freshman Caylee Parker pitched a two-hitter for New London, striking out 10.

    • Sarah Hayward had a bases-clearing triple to spark a nine-run sixth-inning for Old Lyme in a 14-8 victory over Cromwell in the Shoreline Conference. Hayward was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Grace Lathrop had three hits, two runs and an RBI for Old Lyme (6-2), Kassidy Standish 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and winning pitcher Audrey Gavin was 2-for-4 with an RBI, her 19th stolen base of the season and two runs scored.

    • Hannah Smith pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Norwich Tech beat Ellis Tech 17-2 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Smith also went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and five RBI for the Warriors (4-2, 4-0) and teammate Daisey Plasimano was 4-for-4 with four RBI and five runs scored.

    • Lyman Memorial defeated Wheeler 15-0 in an ECC Division III game stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule. Nikki Collins had two hits for the Lions (1-6, 0-4), including a double.
