    H.S. soccer roundup: Ledyard tops Woodstock on Smith's goal

    Woodstock — Elliott Smith scored the go-ahead goal off a free kick scrum in the 66th minute to lift Ledyard past Woodstock Academy, 2-1, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' soccer game on Wednesday.

    Nick Washington scored for Ledyard (4-1, 3-0) and Ken Turner had five saves, including one with 10 seconds left on a point blank shot. Doug Newton scored for the Centaurs.

    In other games:

    • Tyler Velazquez scored his second goal five minutes into overtime to life Montville past Waterford, 3-2. Montville (4-1) played with 10 players for 30 minutes of the second half and overtime due to a red card. Jack Varley had a goal and an assist Aaron Muncaster and Jacob Rose both had an assist, and Keaton Sulman had 12 saves for Montville. Harrison Searle and Jose Guevara Gomez scored and A.J. Sachatello had two saves for the Lancers (0-4).

    • East Lyme took a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to beat NFA 3-1 in an ECC Division I game. Matt Kung and Alec Kosinski scored in the first half and Kurt Mahlke added the final goal for East Lyme (5-2, 1-2) with 15 minutes left. Duncan Manthous had an assist and Sunny Lall and Owen Brown combined for six saves for East Lyme. Max Knowlton scored, Marc Josaphat assisted and Troy Maurer made nine saves for NFA (1-5, 0-3). 

    • Billy Niles and Shane Sutton scored two goals each as St. Bernard beat Putnam in an ECC Division IV game. Dan Kelly had a goal and Martin Arvidson made three saves for St. Bernard (3-1, 2-1).

    • Grasso Tech lost to Ellis Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference game, 5-0. Joel Potter made 15 saves for Grasso (1-3, 0-2).

    Girls

    • Wheeler lost to Windham in an ECC Division IV game, 2-0. Addie Hauptmann made eight saves for Wheeler (0-4, 0-2).
