    H.S. roundup: Stonington posts 6-0 girls' soccer win over St. Bernard

    Stonington — Vanessa Benjamin scored a pair of goals as Stonington defeated St. Bernard 6-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III girls' soccer match on Thursday.

    Megan Detwiler, Jessica Detwiler, Alex Jefon and Kate Johnson also scored goals for the Bears (3-1-1, 2-0), who did not allow a shot on goal, while Kaleigh Bolduc added an assist.

    It was the first loss of the season for the Saints (3-1, 1-1).

    In other games:

    • Old Lyme rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat rival Old Saybrook 3-2 in the Shoreline Conference. Mya Johnson scored the final two goals, including the game-winner with only 2:12 remaining when she converted a corner kick by Dani McCarthy. Britney DeRoehn scored the first goal for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-1) on an assist by Kaylee Armenia.

    • Khay Hatcher scored three goals while Claudia Blazquez had a goal and three assists to highlight Waterford's 7-0 victory over Griswold. Ciana Chiappone added a goal and two assists for the Lancers (2-2) while Olivia Larned and Julia Karlberg each scored a goal and goalie Mckenzie Gregory made three saves.

    • Olivia Meehan scored three goals as Montville rolled to an 8-0 win over New London in an ECC Division II match. Lauren Velazquez added two goals and one assist for the Indians (3-1, 2-0) while Michaela MacCracken scored twice, Kara Beaupre and Alexis DeLucia had two assists each and Alexis Meehan scored a goal. New London is 2-3, 0-2.

    • Shannon Hickey scored the game's only goal, as Bacon Academy blanked Ledyard, 1-0, in ECC Division II action. Savannah Wahrer had 14 saves for the Colonels (1-3, 1-1).  

    • Fitch managed just two shots on goal in a 7-0 loss to Woodstock Academy in ECC Division I. Sophomore goalie Francesca Foster made nine saves for the Falcons (1-3, 0-1 ECC Div. I). Peyton Saracina had her first two varsity goals for Woodstock Academy (3-0-1, 2-0).

    • Laura Cacasse scored with seven minutes remaining to give Norwich Tech/Holy Family a 1-0 victory over Grasso Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Marissa Maceranda made eight saves in goal for the Warriors (4-1) while Grasso goalie Dinorah Cruz made 14 saves.

    Field hockey

    • Zoe Pearse had a goal and an assist as Fitch/Ledyard blanked Killingly 2-0 in the ECC. Devin Lyon also scored for the Falcons (2-2, 2-2) while Gillian Jordan added an assist and goalie Hailie Kesterson made three saves.

    • Nancy Alden scored a pair of goals as East Lyme outlasted Woodstock 5-2 in the ECC. Caroline Real added a goal and an assist for the unbeaten Vikings (3-0, 2-0) while Katie Durkee and Sarah Healy each scored a goal, and Maya Rose, Daven Roberts, Morgan Crandall and Lily Moffett added one assist apiece.

    Girls' cross country

    • Fitch earned a 15-50 victories over Lyman Memorial and host Windham on Wednesday. Julia Adrian was the individual winner for the Falcons in 21:13 while Gabby Cardona finished fifth in 23:53 and Janeesa Nelson was sixth in 23:58.
